“You’re never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true.” -Richard Bach

India- the land of love and passion, the land of  pattern and colour where everything is beautifully decorated from delicate embroidery on fabrics and flamboyant rangoli designs in the temples to unique architecture and painted rikshaws. In there, thousands of years ago, the characteristic art of beautification had its beginning- Mehndi or henna… The tradition that spans for ages, emphasizes the innate beauty of human body. It’s a necessary part of most Indian festivals and  celebrations and  it accompanies Asian women in all important moments of their lives.
Despite of years passing and fashion changing mehndi always has a significant place in Indian art and also recently became very popular in Western countries. What is so special about henna art that it didn’t lose its value over thousands of years and still remains very popular in modern, developing world?
Mehndi designs can be so beautiful but they are so momentary.  So why do we let them to get lost in between and let other art forms to surpass it? In this blog I would like to stop for a moment and admire intricate designs of mehndi… Find out more about roots of henna art, its meaning and role in society. And finally show, that mehndi art is not as difficult as it seems to be. It’s actually a lot of fun.
I have always been intrigued by this fascinating and mysterious form of body art.  My first designs I was creating at school, just doodling with pen during boring lessons ;-) As a teenager I started beautifying my palms with proper henna paste, but never collected any evidence of my work. And now I would like to change it.
I believe that happiness comes from doing the things you love and enjoy in life. Therefore I would like to try what it takes and  move my hobby to the next level- try my hand at becoming a mehndi artist.
So I hope this is the start of my portfolio. I am setting off to chase my dreams…
